Tzeentch Daemon Kin

I figured I would show off a few more pics of my completed Tzeentch Daemonkin work. I am particularly pleased with how quickly the Horrors painted up. For all of my daemon skin I start with  Naggaroth Night Base followed by successive layers of Xereus Purple -> Genestealer Purple -> Pink Horror. Then I coat it all in a mix of Druchii Violet Shade and Vallejo Glaze Medium to thin the glaze and pull all he colours together. The only difference with the Horrors is that I used all the same colours through my airbrush. I focused on a Zenithal highlight style with an artistic flair by over highlighting the last layer. Then it was a sit down and grind out all the brush on details.

TLDR: Airbrushing saved me 3 hours of brushwork and made blends that I couldn't do with a traditional brush.

For Khorne!

I have finished 2 more models for my Warhammerd army. I agreed to paint both of these so that I could have some awesome models to hopefully drum up some more commissions.

The first that I completed was the Soulgrinder. Way back in the days of 4ed 40k, true line of sight wasn't a thing. So when my little brother let me assemble his Defiler, it looked more like a crab. When 5ed and TLoS arrived, some of his friends complained that he was modelling for advantage. With Khorne Daemonkin out, and my crazy idea to mix a Defiler and a Nemesis Dreadknight, I once again asked to model for him and repair my mistake. I also had a few bitz from the Bloodthirster kit.

Once the Soulgrinder was done, I immediately set to work on the Bloodthirster mk2. I did my best to create the fiery wings that were requested of me, and overall it was a fun and challenging project. I can't get over how amazingly well detailed this model is. I really want one for myself. One day...

And I continue to rant and rave about how amazing the airbrush is to use. Best. Anniversary. Gift. Ever.

Thousand Sons Terminators

Continuing on with the Chaos army, I have finished up the Terminators. I used 1 of the Deathwing Knights box sets and 1 of the Chaos Lord in Terminator Armour.

The hooded heads for the Deathwing Knights all have faces showing underneath of them. Because of the actions of Ahriman and the Rubric spell, all Thousand Sons marines are permanently locked into their armour. To this end I needed to get rid of the faces and I did so using several different sized drill bits and a hobby knife.

Then all I needed to do what remove the Dark Angels symbols. I did leave a few remaining as trophies. Also, Tzeentch is often shown as a bird so some of the wings could stay.

I'm quite pleased with the final result and it has me excited to paint the standard Rubricae.

When the inspiration hits you

I am a fairly creative person. I love to come up with an idea and start a new project. Sometimes(read everytime) completing a project is a struggle and a fight. In the last 2 months I have finished up some cool projects and really invested myself into making them as awesome as possible.

With my most recent projects out of the way, it is time for me to get back to work on the CSM army. But, last weekend I played in the 3rd game of my narrative campaign with Nick . I wanted to have a brand new Hero to lead my army. I sat down and in about 4 hrs cranked out a Nurgle Lord that I had converted to be a Herald for my Daemons army. But this Nurgle character got me thinking and I decided to convert and paint a chariot for him to ride in. I am really pleased with how the model finished up.

So even though you may be struggling to finish a project, sometimes you just need to direct some energy into a single model and it gets the paint flowing so you can finish up.

Busy busy busy...

Life is just that, very busy. I have still been hobbying fairly regularly, when I haven't been sick that is. I'm also at a new job site that tripled my commute time and shuffled the hours of work. They work there isn't bad to do, but getting there and the mud are frustrating.

But hobby stuff! I wanted to test out the colour scheme for the Thousand Sons. I converted the model from the Dark Vengeance Chosen Champion. The watcher is from the Dark Angels Deathwing Knights kit, given the mace for his master. This model can be a Dark Apostle or a Sorcerer and when I finish the other Watcher with the sword so that he can have a force sword.

Following the completed Dark Apostle, I quickly finished 17 Bloodletter. They're not amazingly painted, albeit the camera makes the red look worse, but they're done and that's worth something.

I took a bit of a break after the Bloodletters and then finished the Herald of Tzeentch in about a day. Sometimes the paint just goes nicely. I'm also please because it's an inversion of the colours in the Dark Apostle. Same pallet but flipped.

And then pulling up the rear I decided to work on the Forgefiend/Maulerfiend. The Howdah is to make it look original and the Dark Apostle just happens to kit up there for luck.

Wow, so much hobby in 1 month!

Heldrake does as Heldrake pleases

So here is the Heldrake finished. Things that I tried to achieve were to use the purple on the fleshy bits of the heldrake just like I want to use on the helbrutes and forgefiends. Thinking from a dark Magos perspective I tried to imagine that he has blood instead of oil so the model looks like it's leaking blood.

This model is extremely sharp to handle and once again there are so many details and edges.

Cultists are done!

So this morning I finished up painting all the cultists. The bases are not done yet but I always do my bases as a complete army to keep consistency. This was by far the intensive group to paint for model count. I wanted to keep them dirty and grimy looking.

Because they're a horde of rabble I just used the same colours repeated over all the unit but in different spots. Once they all had their basecoats done I washed them with a brown wash. I then went back and made the green brighter, highlighted the champions, and added the weathering and blood.

I like this colour scheme because it can work for 3 different chaos armies. They can be for a Tzeentchian force, Alpha Legion, or even as a Tyrant's Legion force from Imperial Armour 9.

With the ICs 2015 Hobby Progress Challenge now kicked off it's time to unveil the latest additions to the Chaos forces.

So first on deck with have 43 Cultists. I primed them black and then drybrushed them grey. So far I painted one test model. I'm really to emphasize the dark and dirty nature of Chaos troops. So here goes nothing...
